My name is Michael Meredith (now aged 57 and living near Cambridge UK).

I was born in Oldham, lived in Vulcan St. Derker to age 14 and was a choirboy and 5th Oldham wolf cub pack and scout group at St. Ambrose church, Watersheddings. I attended Derker infants and Derker Juniors, then later Manchester Grammar School.

My father Ronald Meredith (Ron or Ronnie Meredith) was "Skip" - scoutmaster and indeed founder of the 5th Oldham boy scouts group, later joined by Norman Chidgey who scouting name was "Kim".

I would like to make contact with anyone who remembers me or who was in the Saint Ambrose choir in the late 1950s to early 1960s, and also anyone who knew myself, or my late father, in the Fifth Oldham scout troup.

A number of us who are ex-members of 5th Oldham cubs or scouts are interested in getting together to have a reunion in 2007, and sharing photos and memorabilia from our scouting/cubbing days.

2007 will be the centenary of the Scouting Movement. At 8am on August 1st next year every member of the scout movement (past and present, throughout the world) is invited to re-affirm their promise at that time in a "Sunrise Ceremony".

St. Ambrose church is still standing, though the stained glass windows have been removed and the whole building has been gutted and renovated to form a nursery, run by Ambrose Nursery Ltd, Prince Charlie Street, Oldham, OL1 4HJ.
